UPDATE: ASHLEY HAS BEEN ADOPTED. We don't have a "gotcha" pic as it was her foster mom who decided to adopt her. We will miss you, little angel. We wish you Godspeed and a long, happy and healthy life. Thank you for being such a good girl while you recovered from your (now healed) broken leg!!!!

Previous information:

We have the best news ever. Little Miss Ashley had a sleepover at Best Friends Animal Hospital last night, so (based on previous x-rays and exams), Dr. West could amputate her leg first thing this morning. But the Universe had other plans! When Dr. West examined our little girl prior to the scheduled surgery, it was clear that there was absolutely no pain in her leg. So, she put her down on the floor to watch her walk. Our little champ walked purrfectly. No limp. No pain. Dr. West took another set of x-rays to be sure and, lo and behold - the fractures had healed themselves! See what strict cage rest for three weeks with lots of tlc can do! Not to mention the Kitten Magic Ashley brought to herself! Dr. Campos had said that there was a good chance she'd heal with rest and thankfully, she did. We're thrilled that Dr. West had the forethought to take one final x-ray before the scheduled surgery and that we waited and didn't rush in to amputate the leg.

Ashley tested negative for FeLV, so it was safe to let her room with Eddie and EJ in their super luxury condo. That's a big change for her from that tiny crate she was kept in to heal. We now have one very happy little girl. Actually, make that TWO happy little girls (Ashley and E.J.), one happy little boy - Eddie, and one very happy foster mom (Rae!). The trio is having a blast together. Don't worry - I'm keeping a close eye on her - she's allowed to play, but no jumping for now. Keep watching for updates - Ashley will be available for adoption in about a month - after she has been spayed. If you'd like, you can submit an adoption application at www.thelittlecatsrescue.org and get ahead of the crowd!

Today's bill was $250, bringing the total to $500 spent on her leg. We received almost $1,500 in donations for her and will use the remainder for her spay (when she's ready) and for upcoming veterinary needs for others. As you can imagine, with this many cats in residence, there's always a veterinary emergency. Thank you everyone who generously contributed to Ashley. We can't do this important work without you.

Ashley - tiny little girl with the big bad breaks to her leg - She's steadily gaining weight, and as soon as our vets deem it safe, she will have the painful leg removed. Thank you for any and all contributions you can send her way, please use this link and please SHARE!

UPDATE: After conferring with several of our vets, we've decided to give Ashley some more time before surgery. She will be on cage-rest for four weeks, when a new set of x-rays will be taken. It is possible that the femur will heal itself, but unlikely that the growth plate will. We want to give her the best shot at a safe surgery and a complete recovery. We've started her on some supplements to support her immune system, and she will remain on gabapentin for as long as it is deemed safe. We discussed the possibility of a pin, but because of the severity of the growth plate fracture, including shattered pieces of bone, a pin is not an option. We appreciate so much your generosity and hope that when the time comes, we'll have all the funds we need.

It truly takes a village. We received an urgent plea today about a tiny kitten who had been trapped underneath a mobile home. The homeowners heard her cries for at least 24 hours, and she was finally coerced out with a can of smelly cat food this morning. She was ushered into their sunroom but was hobbling and darting about, hiding and hissing up a storm. They were unable to contain her.

We are unable to fulfill the role of emergency responder, and we often rely on the expertise of our rescue partner, Tip My Ear. Ruth and RJ arrived on the scene to find little miss very upset and darting from one hiding spot to another. At one point, she managed to wedge herself behind the dryer. With patience and perseverance, Ruth and RJ corralled her and assessed a broken leg. She was given pain meds and gingerly placed into a carrier for her trip to our Sanctuary.

We were able to get her into our vet immediately, where x-rays were taken. They showed not one but two severe breaks in her left rear leg - one at the growth plate and a spiral break lower on the leg. Amputation is recommended. This little girl weighs a mere 1.47 lbs. All consulted vets want to wait until she gains some weight before surgery, so we will manage her pain as best as we can.

This little angel has been given the name Ashley and is resting in her crate with a stuffy that has a simulated heartbeat, a heating pad and lots of cozy blankets. She is eating her slurry of pate and KMR and using the litterbox.

If you'd care to donate any amount, please use this link and please SHARE! https://linktr.ee/thelittlecatsrescue  Zelle (no fee charged) and PayPal (small fee) will allow us to access the funds immediately. The estimated cost of this surgery is between $1,200 and $1,500. Once she has recovered and eventually spayed, Ashley will be available for adoption.

Thank you with love, purrs and sandpaper kisses.
