Who we are and
why we do what we do!
PLEASE take a few moments to review our adoption policies and the steps
we follow as part of our adoption process.
You may be surprised to learn that adopting a cat is more involved and
takes more time than you expected.
Everything we do is in the best interests of our cats and ultimately
your family - We are dedicated to
giving them the best chance of finding a permanent and loving home.
It is important to understand that:
1. The adoption
process is the same for everyone.
2. Our concerns
are just like yours—
the long-term
well-being of our rescued cats.
We lovingly call our cats “rescues,” as many of them have endured abuse,
abandonment and neglect. When we receive
these cats, they are often ill and seldom neutered. Many have emotional difficulties. Before we offer them for adoption,
they have been fully vetted (FIV/FeLV tested, spayed/neutered, vaccinated,
microchipped, dewormed, and passed a health check by our veterinarians.) They have been socialized in a loving “real
life” foster home and fed premium food.
We are very hands-on with the cats, and we have observed their likes,
their dislikes, quirks and requirements.
While at PetSmart, they do not languish in cages – they receive on-going
socialization and monitoring by our dedicated volunteers, with play-time
outside their cages several times a day.
This ensures a happy cat!
As you can imagine, it is stressful and
upsetting for your family, our cats and our staff if an adoption fails and the
cat must be returned to us. We have many
years of experience with rescue and adoptions, and our process is designed and
intended to avoid a disastrous outcome.
Thank you for taking the time to understand our process. We want to assure you that we do not wish to
frustrate, take up too much of your time, or be invasive with you in any
way. We do not want you to rush into
this life-time commitment, but to partner with us to make this a pleasant
experience for all involved.
ADOPTION PROCEDURE:
1. Our application
must be completed. We do check veterinary references. This is
intended to protect the health of adoption candidates and the pets that you may
already have.
2. We require
documentation that your landlord allows this pet in your home if you rent or
lease.
3. Since this will
be a family pet, adoption should be a family decision. The entire family will be asked to spend time
with the cat. Any unease with this cat
now will result in rejection sooner or later.
4. We require
documentation that your current pets are spayed/neutered, current on their
vaccines, and cats have passed an FIV/FeLV blood test.
5. We will
schedule a brief home visit, which is primarily intended to evaluate safety
conditions for our cats.
Please ask all
the questions you want to ensure that you and your family will be comfortable
with this cat and its requirements.
ADOPTION FEE:
We accept cash or a local check.
We are not able to accept debit or credit cards.
The Little Cats’ Rescue is a private non-profit organization whose
existence relies solely on donations. We
have been a 501(C)3 Florida non-profit organization
since 2003.
Our adoption fees partially cover costs involved in readying our rescues
for their forever homes. We have no
paid staff; all funds are used for the rescue and care of cats, managing feral
colonies, and assisting with spay/neuter for families in need.
Our requested fees partially cover the veterinary services that have
been provided for your new cat(s).
Additional contributions are greatly appreciated, used to care for our
rescues, and would carry tax benefits to you.
